In Australia, there is increasing acknowledgement of the need to better respond to children and young people as victim-survivors of domestic, family and sexual violence in their own right. The National Plan to end Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032 embeds this recognition, and there have been calls at the state and national level to ensure that early intervention and system responses are reformed to ensure age-appropriate and child-centred practices. Within this, there is a need to build the evidence base on child centred approaches to the design and delivery of housing options for children and young people experiencing and escaping domestic and family violence (DFV).
This project seeks to better understand and give voice to children and young people’s experiences of seeking and accessing housing services following DFV in Australia. This will include exploring children and young people’s views on the design, components and delivery of suitable housing that meets children’s needs.
