Founded in 2024 by Principal Consultant Dr Kate Fitz-Gibbon, Sequre Consulting is home to expert consultants in Australia and internationally who share the goal of advancing a safer and more equitable future for all individuals.
Put simply – SEQURE – is home to expert consultants who share the goal of advancing safety (that’s the S) and equality (that’s the EQ) with an underpinning commitment to Research and Evidence (that’s the URE!)
WHY SEQURE CONSULTING?
We simply cannot achieve one without the other.
Global momentum for addressing women’s equality and safety has gained pace in recent decades, however, progress is never linear. Recent setbacks to women’s rights and the ongoing prevalence of violence against women and girls worldwide is a constant reminder that efforts to achieve safety and equality for all must be accelerated.
By many measures global efforts to achieve gender equality are in decline. This is evident in Australia as well as across the world. At the current rate of progress, the World Economic Forum predicts it will take 131 years to reach full gender parity. Gender inequality impacts women’s workforce participation, access to education, representation of women in leadership roles, the safety of women and girls, legal rights for women, access to technology, and contributes to health disparities including access to health care and reproductive rights.
In Australia, achieving gender equality is increasingly on the national agenda with federal and state-funded initiatives rolling out across diverse communities, sporting fields, workplaces and schools.
VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS IS A GLOBAL CRISIS
Globally, an estimated 736 million women—almost one in three—have been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both at least once in their life (30% of women aged 15 and older). This figure, provided by the United Nations, does not include sexual harassment. Global prevalence data reveals that in 2021 alone 45,000 women and girls worldwide were killed by their intimate partners or other family members. This equates to, on average, more than five women or girls killed every hour by someone in their own family.
Violence against women and girls has profound impacts, on the individual victim as well as for their families, communities, workplaces, and economies. Impacts can be immediate and long-term, and including physical, psychological, social, education, employment and financial consequences.
